Forestville is the kind of town where the only thing that registers as you drive through is annoyance at the lowered speed limit. Forget about slowing down---there’s reason to pull over. Mosaic, ho-hum from the outside, beguiles upon entering. It feels like someone’s home dressed up for a cozy dinner party: warm woods, light painted brick walls, pillar candles and tea lights, tables set with heavy pottery in bright earth colors. The menu’s proclamation “everything seasoned generously with passion and pride!” isn’t meant to be overzealous---it signals the heart in chef Tai Olesky’s kitchen. He instinctively combines seasonal ingredients, often as locally sourced as his own backyard, so that they meld into, well, a mosaic of taste. Madeira deglazed wild mushrooms finished with cream harmonize a triple cream Brie; lobster bisque is a Thai-influenced collage of curry and coconut; a fan of crisp-skinned duck breast synchronizes macerated cherries and bitter greens. Homemade-tasting desserts include cheesecake with thick lemon curd. Consider the lovely patio with a fire pit and grassy knoll for summertime buffalo burgers or grilled figs. Retire to a couch in the intimate wine lounge to sip mostly boutique bottlings.
