THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Mott Restaurant Review

: The Mott is, in many ways, the quintessential restaurant to place in NoLIta. The neighborhood, of course, is famous for valuing style over substance, and while The Mott is not a wholly empty vessel, it’s as much about the feel of the place as it is about the food. This 38-seat restaurant maintains a short menu, a long wine list and plenty of romantic touches like whitewashed brick walls and wine cubbies everywhere. The food, from Bouley veteran Brian Bieler, is clever and pushes the envelope just enough for the clientele. Ergo, fish ‘n’ chips becomes cod with fries, cockles and artichokes; pork belly is gussied up with cherries and peaches, making it appealing to even a model (well, a few bites, anyway). It’s all very seasonal, so expect dishes to change with the weather. Still, some dishes that should be easy to execute, like salmon with squid and tartar sauce, fall short of greatness and are to be avoided. Don’t miss the crème brûlée, studded with pink peppercorns, for dessert.
