The namesake Italian-beef sandwich is one of the best in the city; there's a spicy, tantalizing sweetness to the meat that is incomparable. And itâ€™s not just regular folks who noticed: Jay Leno and Jerry Springer are among its devotees. The ribbons of meat are loaded with a heavy hand into a soft-inside, crispy-outside roll, and the peppers (sweet, hot or both) are piled on top and served wet or dry. Get it as a combo because the grilled Italian sausage has good flavor as well, thanks to a hit of fennel.
