THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mr. K's Restaurant Review:
Mr. K’s has a sherbet palate cleanser between courses, fine china, linen tablecloths and classical music---not your typical Chinese restaurant. Further adding to that fact is that Mr. K’s doesn’t even offer carryout food. The menu, too, has many Western overtones: Lobster Grand Marnier and filet of sole Sauvignon, for example. Firecracker Lobster, Pecan Shrimp, Empress Beef and Pork Loquat, though, do strike more of a Far Eastern note. Surprisingly, the Lamb Marengo, which we thought might well come with the typical brandy and tomatoes of a Marengo dish, is actually accented by chilies and consists of lamb slices tossed with scallions, garlic and ginger---no one flavor predominates, not even the chili heat. Just because Mr. K’s is different doesn’t mean it’s not popular. It is, attracting a well-heeled crowd. There’s an affiliated branch in Manhattan.
