THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mr. Rain's Fun House Restaurant Review:
The top-floor restaurant at the American Visionary Art Museum no longer has its splendid harbor view, now dominated by high-priced condos. But you might not notice, as there’s so much to look at inside. Mr. Rain’s Fun House is decorated in true AVAM spirit, with vibrant colors, light-catching bits of mirror, and playful artworks from the museum’s permanent collection. As one may expect, the menu is unorthodox, too, but in the hands of chef Bill Buszinski, even such dubious-sounding ideas as duck hot dogs and “tuna candy” turn out to be notable. The menu is seasonal and changeable, but you might luck into pheasant sausage and grilled shrimp bedded on manchego grits, golden beets with Ukrainian forest mushroom dumplings, or ruby-red trout with fennel and potato salad. The beverage list, masterminded by Perez Klebahn, is also eclectic, and the staff is knowledgeable and passionate about food.
