A grown up place where adults can find a sophisticated meal? That seems to be the concept at Murano, a stylish dining destination in West Hollywood. Black and cherry red chandeliers and sconces from the namesake Italian island hang throughout the restaurant, the curvy flatware speaks to a strong sense of design and the lighting is soft and flattering. White discs evoking the ’60s separate the back dining room from the bar area, where low white leather furniture in basic geometric shapes further evokes a sense of mod. The Italian-themed menu plays it safe, with satisfying options from ahi tartare---here, a tower with micro greens and spicy chips---and a competent, if mild, Caesar salad among starters. There are the requisite cuts of meat (pork tenderloin, lamb shank and flat iron steak, to list a few) and a handful of pastas, like linguine with a trio of plump scampi and ripe red and yellow tomatoes. While the presentation of the salmon---with finely slivered asparagus and lemon preserves over a pile of quinoa---is Spartan, the flavors are anything but. Specials, like osso buco, add a bit of depth to the menu. And the kitchen seems to have a seasonal approach to produce as the accompanying vegetables are both ripe and flavorful. The best desserts come in threes: a trio of gelato---chocolate, dulce de leche and pistachio---and a plate of artisanal cheeses, offered with seasonal fruit and fig jam. The relatively small wine list touches lightly on a few continents, but it's easy to find some decent and fairly priced options.
