An eclectic mix of Mexican and Irish in Greenwich Village.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Murphy & Gonzalez Restaurant Review:
Yes, it’s a rather improbable pairing --- Mexican and Irish --- but when it comes to food and drink and hospitality it somehow makes sense: take an Irish-like pub (which, in this case, is a glorified sports bar with plenty of handsome dark wood) and offer Guinness and Corona and a schizophrenic menu filled with everything from cottage pie to quesadillas. It’s best to stick to the south-of-the-border portion of the menu. The huge burrito, which may be the biggest in the Big Apple, is a good bet: filled with peppers, onions and chicken, shredded pork, chili or steak, it’s too big to pick up, but could probably feed a family of four. There are big salads as well. The fish tacos, filled with sautéed whitefish, go well with a bottle of Mexican beer. In the end, it’s perfect stomach filler during the big game.
