Regulars and museum visitors relax and dine beneath the white and purple flowers and vine-wrapped trellis, the air redolent from the nearby sea. Creative seasonal fare arrives as a candied-pecan salad with julienned Granny Smith apples, Gorgonzola, rosemary-lemon chicken and organic greens, dressed up with chef Giuseppe Ciuffa’s special balsamic vinaigrette, or the ultimate grilled cheese, an open-face treat of gooey mozzarella, Parma prosciutto, basil pesto and fresh tomatoes on artisan Bread & Cie sourdough. A healthy lentil soup sings with flavor, while the black bean chili will also please vegetarians. For those desiring something a little heavier, the cove burger goes gourmet with chipotle aïoli, onion marmalade and melted smoked Gouda. Truffle aïoli and Gorgonzola spread add a medley of flavors to the Angus roast beef sandwich. Breakfast means Southwestern frittatas studded with bell peppers and onions in a piquant ranchero sauce, or eggs whites scrambled with grilled artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. Kids will like the chocolate chip pancakes or cinnamon raisin french toast with berry coulis and pure maple syrup. The ever-charming, Italian-born Ciuffa sets the friendly tone of this eatery.
