Featuring a small bar, a modest number of tables, and a take-out section, Muss & Turner's offers options for all kinds of dining, including taking fine fare to enjoy at home. Todd Mussman handles toque duties, while Ryan Turner manages the operation and the front of the house: thus the name. Locally sourced foodstuffs are important; the burger is made from grass-fed beef from Riverview Farm in north Georgia, and the grits come from the same source. Fielding a menu that changes daily, Mussman ambles through Southern delectables, such as pork belly and fried green tomatoes, and handles most of them deftly. (We’ll just pass on his take on collard greens, rendered unfamiliar and unauthentic by the addition of honey.) Crispy pork belly on the starters list may be embellished in any of a number of inventive ways, but all will please. Lots of cooking is done on the Big Green Egg, which seems always to be busy smoking meats. More than 25 wines are offered by the glass, and a whole raft of beers (about 60) also is in store. The pastry chef turns out lovely desserts, brunch pastries and breads. Tasty, but not authentic either, the fried pie gets too much fuss and feathers and is missing its noble rusticity.
