| Kamel Phutlek was a trailblazer when he opened Nan in University City, and while his food remains notable, his particular brand of French Thai cuisine isn't as unique as it once was and the restaurant could do with an update. But this BYO still offers tasty dishes in its serene setting near all the Penn campus happenings. Coconut chicken soup with a spicy edge and spicy squid salad can start the meal. Lemon grass-crusted salmon bears the chef’s signature red curry sauce, and duck breast in burgundy is rare and tender; we also recommend the sweetbreads napoleon with creamed leeks and port wine sauce. Intense blood orange sorbet or crème brûlée are good desserts after this highly-flavored cuisine. |
