Napa Valley Grille is the Providence arm of an upscale chain with outlets from California to New Jersey. But despite its provenance and mall locale, it’s one of a handful of eateries that has raised the bar on food in Providence. Unlike many chains, Napa Valley Grille gives its local chefs the autonomy to experiment, and it shows in the Providence menu. Chef Jeffrey Carroll uses fresh local ingredients in conjunction with steamed Maine mussels, littleneck clams and Champagne-poached George’s Bank scallops fresh off the docks in Galilee.
