This comfy trattoria greets its patrons with a sign proclaiming "sempre famiglia," and family forever is their theme. They excel at prompt yet friendly service, a casual Mediterranean ambience and homey foods. It’s run by a multi-generational family that’s been in the business of preparing house-made Italian cuisine in California for 45 years. The wine list offers gems from the Central Coast and Italy at reasonable prices, and the starter of warm bread and tapenade tastes good with wine while awaiting your order. Don’t pass up the tender, crisp calamari fritti. Another good starter is the comforting minestrone soup thick with veggies and pasta, nicely highlighted with a light touch of tomato. The owners take pride in their New York steak with sautéed mushrooms as well as an old-fashioned cioppino chockablock with shrimp, swordfish, clams and mussels in the house marinara, and most entrées are value-priced under $20. Decadent desserts like cheesecake with raspberry sauce and the white and milk chocolate éclair with ice cream are well worth the extra calories. The freshly brewed Peet’s coffee completes a very satisfying experience.
