Nawab Indian Cuisine Restaurant Review: Like its outlets in Norfolk, Newport News and Williamsburg, Nawab in Virginia Beach presents Indian cuisine in a serene, elegant setting. White tablecloths grace the tables and walls bear lush, bold colors for a contemporary yet reverential tribute to a rich heritage. There’s an interesting menu of korma, kebabs and biryani entrées (with a choice of chicken, lamb, goat, seafood or vegetables). But the tandoori gets special attention with the likes of boti kebab, leg of lamb chunks marinated overnight then skewered and roasted in the barrel-shaped clay oven. Prawns receive a similar treatment with a yogurt-ajwain (an herb reminiscent of thyme) marinade, as does shrimp and chicken zafrani, jumbo shrimp and chicken breast in a saffron-ginger marinade. Vegetarians will find endless variety, including kofta lajwab (mixed vegetable croquettes in a tomato-fenugreek sauce) and vegans can enjoy such dishes as Goan vegetable curry (vegetables sautéed with mustard seeds in coconut curry sauce). End with a soothing dessert of kheer, the traditional rice pudding graced with nuts, rosewater and cardamom or refreshing mango ice cream. Indecisive? Check out the daily lunch buffet.
