THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Neely's Bar-B-Que Restaurant Review: Long before Gina and Pat Neely's mastery of pork ribs landed them a national TV show, the couple gained a loyal base among Memphis’ barbecue fans thanks to their beef and pork ribs, served wet (with sauce) or dry (rubbed with dry spices), hot wings, sandwiches and barbecue spaghetti. On the Food Network’s “Down Home With the Neelys,” they teach viewers how to prepare their Southern cuisine at home. While the recipes appear relatively simple, it’s even easier to pull up to a table at the Neely’s Memphis barbecue restaurant. Housed in a bright yellow building just east of downtown, the restaurant may look like nothing special on the inside --- dark wood, booths, family memorabilia --- but in fact is probably the nicest barbecue joint in town. The take-out window at the back of the restaurant also does a brisk business. Don’t leave without ordering Gina Neely’s Sock It To Me cake, a pecan-spiced yellow cake with a sweet vanilla glaze. Neely’s doesn’t serve wine, but they do have a small selection of domestic beers. |
