Nellie Belle's Café is an Orlando institution, with crackerjack waitresses and a menu of hearty American food. The clientele is truck drivers, moms with kids, construction workers and businessmen in suits and ties---a motley crew chowing down on giant breakfasts of biscuits and gravy, giant omelets, blueberry pancakes and other filling fare in the spacious, busy dining room. At lunchtime, regulars for Nellie's Blue Plate Special include a hamburger with cheese, mushrooms, grilled onions and green peppers, smothered in gravy with a side of mashed potatoes. On Fridays, it's the smothered burrito that brings them in. If you insist on a salad, try Wanda's special mix of romaine and spinach with mushrooms, bacon, tomato, onions and croutons. Wash it all down with a tall, sweetened iced tea, then share a cobbler of the day with a scoop of ice cream. The treadmill awaits.
