THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Neon Carrot Restaurant Review: Admittedly, The Neon Carrot is not big on ambience. It’s in a strip mall, with counter service, and much of the seating is at communal tables. However, inside you’ll find a place where a talented chef is serving up her inspired market fresh creations; Maegen Loring has been a longtime champion of local and organic producers. Daily specials might include seasonal soups and quiches, zucchini pancakes, and mac ‘n’ cheese nicely flecked with a hearty soy product that you’d swear was real chorizo. Some favorite menu items are the club sandwich with a zesty lemon caper aïoli, the grass-fed Hearst Ranch burger with house-made bun and ketchup, and even the potato salad with hard boiled eggs and a Dijon dressing. The decadent, yet not too sweet, Neon carrot cake is not to be missed, and the freshly baked cookies are hard to pass up as well. The beer and wine list is small, but often offers some fun finds.
