THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED New York Deli Restaurant Review:
Every town needs an old-school deli, and Old Pasadena’s New York Deli is the closest thing to Brooklyn in the Crown City. Whether you’re craving bagels and lox in the morning or an overstuffed pastrami sandwich with Russian dressing after a movie, New York Deli is the place. The storefront eatery, with its black-and-red palette and walls covered with vintage photography of the Big Apple and Golden Age movie stars, is a branch of a Torrance restaurant. The pleasant surprise is that this is not just a place to satisfy an occasional fix for a Rueben, but a very respectable deli overall, sans a good bakery. The matzoh ball soup---a generous bowl with a softball-size centerpiece---is pretty solid and the lean pastrami is nicely, albeit not particularly assertively, seasoned. Sandwiches are stacked high, and service is welcoming.
