The enterprising owners behind this downtown deli went straight to the source when it came time for meat: New York’s famed Carnegie Deli. The Hartford deli’s brisket, corned beef, pastrami, salami and tongue all come from Carnegie. Now that’s pedigree! Pile ’em high and add cheese and slaw and you’ve got deli deliverance. Like any good deli, NY NY serves eggs and omelets, potato pancakes, bagels with Nova and tuna salad. The deli makes matzo balls, coleslaw and potato salad in its kitchen. Try a double-decker sandwich like the Kotch which features roast beef, chopped liver and sliced onion; or the Mazie which sports corned beef, Swiss and cole slaw on pumpernickel with Russian dressing. For dessert there’s cheesecake, seven-layer cake and Hershey’s Fifth Avenue pie from---where else?---the Carnegie. If you can’t get to Manhattan, New York New York Deli hits the spot.
