Newroz Mediterranean Cuisine is a warm space with softly lit sconces lining the walls, and pillows of burgundy velvet and gold cording along the dark wood backs of the banquettes. Authentically prepared dishes include levrek---whole sea bass grilled over a hot flame to crisp the skin and seal in the juices, and topped with a zippy lemon-garlic sauce. Grilled scallops and prawns marinated in a lovely blend of herbs and garlic are some of the biggest we've seen. They are perfectly cooked, but delivered atop slightly overdone orzo. Moussaka is a standout, and one of the many vegetarian options on the menu. Beyti---lavash rolls filled with spiced ground sirloin and served with creamy garlic yogurt sauce and marinara---produces an explosion of flavors, while the adana kebab of ground lamb cutlets in a mixture of red pepper flakes, Hungarian paprika and cayenne packs some serious heat. For lunch, try the Newroz wrap, filled with falafel, eggplant, feta, tomatoes, red onions and cucumber and drizzled with tahini or hot sauce.
