THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Night Monkey Restaurant Review

: Vegetables are more than a side note at this restaurant. They receive at least as much attention as the meat or fish and, in many cases, are the main event. The composition of each dish changes daily according to what's available in the organic produce market (yes, everything here is organic or free-range), and the menu gets completely revised each season. The culinary offering is diverse and even somewhat surprising. Standby items such as grilled sirloin and the ubiquitous grilled polenta comprise one half of the menu, but the other half is dedicated to smoked venison, grilled rabbit and other game dishes that are well-nigh impossible to find in veggie-minded, politically correct San Francisco. Then, to balance things out, chef Gregory Gajus offers such items as grilled white asparagus and a delightfully rustic wild-rice salad with fiddlehead ferns. Swapping and sharing of small plates is absolutely enouraged here. Though the wine selection is primarily Californian, the few European bottles have been hand-selected with care and---dare we say it---love by co-owner Patricia Miller.
