Though they describe the cuisine as Mediterranean, you will know from the moment you walk in that Niko's is, in fact, a Greek restaurant. If the white Christmas lights don't give it away, perhaps the Greek travelogue on the tiny TV will tip you off. Predictable décor aside, the menu offers as many choices as there are islands in the Aegean. Start with spanakotiropitakia, small phyllo pies filled with spinach and cheese---they are even better with melted Gorgonzola and fresh garlic bread. Main courses range from brick-oven pizza to wood plank-roasted fish. The rotisserie-roasted leg of lamb lets guests sample an array of flavors: string beans braised in tomato, oven-roasted lemon potatoes, rice pilaf and yogurt sauce. Of the plentiful specials, try the Greek-style, boneless codfish coated in light batter and lightly fried and served with the traditional accompaniment of garlic-potato dip. No room for dessert? They will bring a small sample of Ravani cake soaked in Greek brandy with the bill.
