THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Nizza La Bella Restaurant Review:
Albany holds a jewel of a restaurant and many locals hope the word doesn't get out to the rest of the Bay Area. Nizza La Bella gets its culinary inspiration and its name from the French coastal town of Nice. But some may argue that it's the giant wood oven that makes most of the dishes stand out from the pack of great East Bay restaurants. A flaky pissaladière sings out the earthy combination of sweetly caramelized onions, anchovies and olives. Pizzas arrive crisp-bottomed and intriguingly topped. It is the roast meats that are not to be missed. Chicken comes juicy with a crackling skin. Also worth numerous returns is the aged rib-eye steak with a tantalizing pile of frites. For dessert, return to the wood oven via an apple galette that is topped with honey-tinged vanilla ice cream.
