Nocawich Restaurant Review:

Nocawich originally arrived as a lunch pop-up inside owner Eliot Wexler’s upscale, dinner-only Noca restaurant in Phoenix. Noca closed in 2014, so Wexler now concentrates on this special sandwich concept, where meals are ordered at the counter from the menu board lining one wall. Ingredients haven’t been dumbed down, though, for specialties like the Meyer Lansky piled with house-made Wagyu pastrami, Dijonnaise and spicy slaw on fresh-baked, griddled marble rye. It all features house-baked bread, house-roasted meats, and homemade sauces and pastries, plus premium ingredients like Schreiner’s chorizo, H&H Midtown bagels, Russ & Daughters smoked salmon, and Edwards Virginia country ham. Start with a breakfast burrito based on a La Sonorense Tortilla Factory wrap stuffed with scrambled egg, cheddar, sour cream, chimichurri crema, charred tomato salsa and thrice-cooked fries, then come back for a lunch of a big What the Cluck? sandwich bringing crisp battered breast meat on a Parker House roll, topped in carrot-cabbage slaw, sliced pickles and honey-Dijon.
