Noe Restaurant Review: If the weather is too inclement to enjoy dining al fresco, then seats near the floor-to-ceiling windows of the larger dining room allow customers to enjoy fine contemporary cuisine, views of the fountain that is the centerpiece of California Plaza’s Water Court, and the sounds of the piano player from the adjacent lounge. Noé’s logo has been a stylized Eiffel Tower long before executive chef Glen Ishii (formerly of Café Del Rey) traveled to France for training in 2008 in preparation for the hotel restaurant’s Flavors of France prix-fixe menu. The present neo-bistro menu showcases fresh California flavors with dishes like roasted eggplant cigar with goat cheese, truffled grilled cheese, cured Tasmanian salmon salad, lobster and flounder with butternut squash custard, and roasted chicken breast with morel mushrooms. Ishii, who started at the restaurant in 2004 as chef de cuisine, draws from his Japanese-American background for some dishes, including a shellfish-stuffed Japanese turnip that we found too bitter for our tastes, and Japanese snapper. Nice touches include the sophisticated ambience, attentive service, bread served warm with truffle butter, and a good selection of cheeses and dessert wines.
