Sure, the Park Hyatt is a luxurious place to stay, but we think that has a lot to do with NoMI, the lovely seventh floor restaurant overlooking Michigan Avenue’s bustle. A contraction of "North Michigan,” the restaurant remains among the paradigms for hotel dining, despite the ever-expanding possibilities. Snake your way to the moody, dark lounge or, when the weather is nice, visit the lush rooftop garden for a pre-meal cocktail. Once you’re ready to immerse yourself in comfort, ask for a window table in the neutral-hued dining room, which is crowned with blown-glass Chihuly chandeliers. Just be sure to leave plenty of time to peruse the renowned (and pricey) wine list. The menu comes courtesy of French-trained Christophe David, whose classic-modern cuisine is as impeccable as the environs in which it is served. A lovely amuse-bouche begins the meal. We’d recommend avoiding the sushi side of the menu (it’s nothing special, save the presentation) in favor of seasonal selections like a salad of assorted lettuces accented by pine nut purée and vegetables crudité. The fare seems simple, yet deceptively so, and it's presented elegantly and prepared pristinely so as to remain true to the fresh ingredients. Main courses may include Brittany turbot with artichoke barigoule, royal trumpets, chanterelle mushrooms and sauce bonne femme, or roasted rack of lamb with braised neck terrine, gordal olives, eggplant marmalade and natural jus. For dessert, try the Chocolate Indulgence: raspberry cocoa nib sorbet, chocolate mousse and raspberry ginger jam. Expensive? Yes, but worth it. |
