Nonna Tata Restaurant Review: A tiny hideout of a café, Nonna Tata just might offer the most satisfying dishes in town---and surprisingly so, as the 21-seat restaurant keeps unusual hours and is easy to overlook in a block of bigger joints in the Fairmount District. The flavors coming from the petite kitchen are stunning, however, thanks to the guidance of owner-chef Donatella Trotti, a native of the lake country between Milan and Lugano. Among plates that will reside in your happiest memories long after the meal has ended are the pumpkin-porcini soup, lemon pasta with garlic and spinach, bresaola over arugula with Parmesan shavings, and asparagus gnocchi. Oh, the name of the place? Given for Trotti’s grandma (nonna), who was called Tata by her family. Bring your own wine, and be prepared to wait for a table. |
