Nonono Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: The owners of Korean hot spots Her Name is Han and Take31 are the team behind this yakitori spot in NoMad, their first foray into Japanese food. As guests enter, they walk by the heart of the place --- Nonono’s yakitori grill --- sizzling with skewers.

Likes: Reasonably priced; yakitori; soba meshi; fun and pleasant space.
Dislikes: Long waits; buzzy space gets loud.

Food & Drinks: Nonono’s menu is presented in a binder, as there is a lot of dishes coming out of the kitchen. Choose from about 40 varieties of yakitori skewers, plus everything from fried chicken to ramen to sushi. It’s overwhelming, and the best game plan is to come hungry and with enough adventurous eaters to share a few dishes from each section of the menu. The chicken skewer choices alone include thigh, wings, skin, knee cartilage, heart and neck meat. There are also chicken oysters, the round piece of dark meat where the back meets the thigh, and it’s pretty close to an ideal bite. Tamago Bacon, soft-boiled eggs wrapped in bacon and drizzled with truffle, is another first-rate option, as is the salmon slathered with a fresh tomato sauce. Non-yakitori selections include a rainbow sushi roll topped with grated Parmesan, and soba meshi, a satisfying bowl of soba noodles and succulent pork. Finish your meal with black sesame panna cotta or bright yuzu sorbet. Pair the feast with craft beer, saké, shochu or one of a few bottles of carefully chosen wine on offer.
