THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED North Coast Restaurant Review:
North Coast is two restaurants in one, and both of them are worth the 20-minute drive west from downtown Minneapolis. In the summer, it's a popular destination for predictable but well-prepared all-American fare (shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, Caesar salad, grilled walleye, steak) that's best enjoyed on the lovely patio next to a small marina in Lake Minnetonka. When the weather changes, the kitchen's pace can slow from madhouse to merely busy. This is when chef Ryan Aberle flexes his culinary muscles by offering a noteworthy deal: a five-course, $35 tasting menu ($55 with wine pairings) that changes frequently but always offers ingenuity and appeal. It might be the best dining-out deal in the Twin Cities, and it's great fun, since Aberle serves each course himself, taking the time to carefully explain the nuances of each dish.
