Oakleys Bistro Restaurant Review: Chef-owner Steven Oakley’s suburban gem has become a destination restaurant for those seeking contemporary cooking in a chic, yet casual, environment. The menu is filled with innovative and fun dishes, such as petite shrimp corn dogs; a "jar" of house-made pickles; and a Tennessee egg roll of pulled pork, grits, cheddar and peach barbecue kale slaw. While the menu changes often, you may encounter a pork porterhouse with bacon-braised chard, white bean succotash and arugula salad, or Amish chicken breast with braised pork belly, baby vegetables, black bean purée and polenta cracker. Almost always available is Stanley's Meatloaf, accompanied by potato purée, chile jam and broccoli lightly bathed in a Vermont white cheddar sauce. The wine list is impressive, and well-informed servers can suggest ideal pairings. Desserts might be whimsical: Peanut Butter & Jelly pairs chocolate olive oil cake with cherry balsamic poppyseed jam, peanut butter custard, macadamia nut brittle and cherry brioche ice cream. It's a delightful way to revisit childhood.
