Owners Derek and Craig Cowling, San Diegans from the Dixieline Lumber family, perfected the art of barbecuing at home and an idea sparked when neighbors and friends kept raving about their organic burger. O'Brothers, tucked away on the second floor of Horton Plaza, has a retro lounge feel with its mod lighting, orange swivel stools and sleek design by David Robinson. Six different burgers are created in the open exhibition kitchen, befitting as they have nothing to hide---the meat is 100 percent organic from Matt Rimel's Homegrown Meats in La Jolla, and everything (except the mustard) is organic here, even the napkins, cups, drinking straws, fries and beer. Bacon, avocado, red onion and cheese dress up the signature Big O burger, a fine assembly of rich flavor in a bite. Try the spice-infused barbecue sauce with your crisp fries and an organic brew. The chunky Cobb salad is a delight as well.
