Oenotri Restaurant Review

: A bright spot on the downtown Napa scene, Oenotri offers memorable southern Italian cuisine layered with seasonal ingredients culled from the restaurant's garden. A comfortable, welcoming ambience pervades the rustic interior featuring exposed brick walls, warm colors and an open kitchen. House-made salumi is a specialty, and a recommended start to any meal. Oenotri's wood-fired, thin-crust Neapolitan pizzas can serve as appetizers or full meals; try the margherita with garden fresh tomato sauce, a highlight, or opt for one dotted with savory house-made pepperoni, melted mozzarella, hot pepper, caramelized onions and arugula. House-made pasta includes the thin fidei alla carbonara, ravioli with wild mushroom and boar, or pappardelle with Gorgonzola, walnuts and peas. More substantial secondi --- usually only three per night --- may bring salmon, steak or quail. Desserts are also of note; try the ricotta panna cotta, chocolate sformato or sorbet, all delightful when paired with dessert wine, liquor or espresso. Italian wines are a focus, but many local varietals are found by the glass or bottle.
