THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Off Citrus Restaurant Review:
In Covina’s historic downtown district, Off Citrus offers one of the San Gabriel Valley’s more charming casual dining experiences. An intimate dining room is splashed in butter-yellow and chocolate, with classic Craftsman appointments, and its patio is popular year-round. One can begin here with a spicy Basque tuna tartare, served very chilled and laced with paprika-scented mayonnaise and copiously studded with capers, or addictive Gorgonzola-bacon fries. For entrées, we recommend the chicken, whose Parmesan-breadcrumb crust seals in juicy white meat rubbed with Dijon mustard. Another chicken dish from chef-owner Shelley Doonan’s kitchen features a pecan crust, topped with lemon-cream sauce, while Niman Ranch steaks with various sauces are additional options. For dessert, consider the chocolate charlotte, apple crisp or a light, bruléed Catalan cheesecake, all prepared on-site.
