| The first thing that greets you as you walk in the door of this giant restaurant is a cloud of smoke---the side effect of the room full of charcoal braziers working overtime, as hungry families grill up their chosen meats. Order the Palace yang nyum gal bi, beef short-rib meat marinated in the “house special sauce” or the dae gee bul go gi, pieces of pork in a sweet sauce and ask the staff to let you grill it yourself: it’s half the fun. The meats come accompanied by a panoply of panchan, a sprightly green salad sprinkled with Korean chili, and bowls of rice. On foggy nights, the stews and soups are particularly welcome---we like the rice cake and dumpling soup with green onions. |
