Okonomiyaki Chibo Restaurant Review:

Dining at Chibo is like taking a trip to Japan, and not the classical, refined Japan but the slam-bang modern version. A delicacy from the Osaka region, okonomiyaki is a sort of giant pancake of vegetables, rice and potato flour, plus a smorgasbord of other ingredients from squid to steak (take your pick; bacon and mochi is a popular combo). Smothered in a formidable soy-tinged sweet-sour sauce, this is hardly classical teishoku fare. It’s good, though. The menu also includes teppanyaki dishes like yakisoba, fried rice, and steak and seafood, in case you feel like some variety. You have to like a Japanese restaurant informal enough to serve saké from California. We recommend it chilled instead of the house Chardonnay. Note: This restaurant was formerly located at 2201 Kalakaua Ave.
