THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Old Mexico Grill Restaurant Review: If you're in search of authentic Mexican food, there's no need to head south, rather head north to one of Santa Fe's finest Mexican restaurants---the Old Mexico Grill where regional Mexican dishes are prepared over an open grill. The exhibition cooking area is where patrons can watch chefs reinvent traditional flavor-packed moles, thick and chunky fricassees (buttery meat stews), fajitas (the shrimp is scrumptious), and soft corn tacos served with superb spirited salsas. Aside from soups and salads, other offerings include lamb dishes and carne asada a la tampiqueña (beef tenderloin with an avocado sauce made slightly crunchy with toasted pepitas (pine nuts). This entrée is for hearty appetites only---the plate is festooned with roasted poblano peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, a cheese enchilada, guacamole and beans. The dish is easier to handle while sipping a Tecaté or one of the other nine specialty Mexican beers at the full bar.
