 Olivette is the centerpiece of dining at the posh Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. But what seems to be a big secret is that Olivette is not just for members. It is open to the public. The Houstonian’s 18 acres of wooded grounds make it a secluded getaway from the bustle of city life even though it is close to the busy Galleria area. Olivette offers lovely views of the trees and sprawling green lawns and there are fresh flowers on the tabletops to create a warm dining atmosphere. The menu features the blending of Mediterranean cuisines with touches of the Middle East alongside American dishes. For something light, lunch on either the Yellow Rose goat cheese with an herb-infused salad, the crab cake salad with garlicky dressing, or the signature southwest Caesar salad with grilled chicken or shrimp. Heartier but just as elegant entrées are the seared veal chop with wilted spinach, Parmesan potatoes and morel mushroom sauce, or the herb-crusted rack of lamb with ratatouille timbale and carrot purée. For pasta, try the pear-Gorgonzola tortellini with toasted pine nuts. Consider Olivette for business breakfasts or lunches, in addition to dinner.
