Tucked down a charming walkway off Duval, Opera is one of those gems travel memories are made of. The intimate, square room of 40 seats around a central wine “gazebo” often develops the air and collective buzz of a private party. Owner Peter Bek-gran is meticulous about details like a warm greeting and precise order on the tables. His father’s paintings add a splash of color to the walls, but it’s Bek-gran's son, chef Patrick, who impresses most. Though young, he’s experienced, and most of all, he’s crazy about food and combinations, such as his beef carpaccio with Tuscan olive oil and homemade pappardelle with shaved black truffles and truffle oil. Main courses include a creative celery seed-crusted grouper with celeriac purée, pan-roasted duck breast with pecan-craisin bread pudding, and rare seared tuna with blood orange citronette. Add professional service and a boutique, global wine list, and you’ll sing the high notes, too.
