Grand ceilings, gilded wood panels and wall paintings set an impressive scene at Operakällaren in Stockholm's Royal Opera House. It would not be an exaggeration to say that chef Stefano Catenacci's cuisine is "fit for a king," as the chef has presided over many banquets and special events for Sweden's royal family. At Operakällaren, he presents a Menu Degustation of eight courses with optional wine pairings, as well as à la carte offerings such as steamed halibut with morels and white asparagus cooked in grapefruit broth; glazed quail breast and consommé "en gelée" flavored with star anise and foie gras parfait; and lemon cake with ginger sorbet and mango cream. The extensive wine cellar houses more than 30,000 bottles from around the world and features rare vintages. Diners should take note that the main dining room closes for a few days in late June and for three weeks starting in mid-July.
