The Counter Burger has, at long last, opened its second Orange County location in Newport Beach's Westcliff Plaza. The same modern, yet retro décor has been applied to this space, which was formerly Pasta Bravo. The make-your-own burger menu is just as enjoyable as at The Counter's other 11 Southern California locations. We enjoy how the fresh Angus beef, chicken and turkey is ground daily, and how we can choose from 12 cheeses, 33 toppings, 21 sauces and four types of buns. We recommend the sweet potato fries, fried onions and Key lime pie. The Counter Newport Beach offers a full bar, as well as a selection of craft beers and rather good wines. True Food Kitchen, a concept developed by Fox Restaurant Concepts and healthy living author Dr. Andrew Weil, has opened between Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and Roy's in Newport Beach's Fashion Island mall. Chef Michael Stebner has developed lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menus using simple, fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Inspired by Mediterranean, Asian and California cuisine, True Food Kitchen offers a wide selection of eating options, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. In addition, the restaurant only uses healthy fats, organic dairy products, wheat-free pastas, and hormone- and antibiotic-free chicken, turkey and Angus beef. Natural sodas are offered, in addition to fresh fruit drinks sweetened with agave nectar or honey, as well as Fair Trade and organic coffees and handcrafted cocktails. Pizzeria Ortica Hosts Monday Night Family-Style Dinners
Pizzeria Ortica, which is located near Costa Mesa's Performing Arts Center, has introduced family-style dinners on Monday evenings. For $50 per person, guests can choose from a variety of rustic regional Italian salads, pastas, pizzas and desserts. Some of the dishes include tagliatelle bolognese (hand-cut spinach pasta with a traditional meat sauce and Parmigiano-Reggiano) and salsiccia pizza (house-made sausage, caramelized fennel, mascarpone, red onion and buffalo grana). Pizzeria Ortica has also extended its weekday happy hour from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. and 8 p.m.-close. The happy hour menu includes $7 pizzas, $3 cocktails and half-off discounts on wine and beer. Morton’s Adds Nine New Dishes
Morton's The Steakhouse in Anaheim and Santa Ana have introduced nine new dishes to their menu, including a double-cut filet, a bone-in filet, mini crab cake "BLTs," steak fries, smoked salmon pizza, onion rings, blue cheese tenderloin crostinis, Chilean sea bass with pineapple-pepper salsa and a reinvention of this classic steakhouse's legendary vanilla-and-chocolate sundae. Bayside Features New Happy Hour Menu
Bayside in Newport Beach is bringing a new happy hour and tapas menu to its renovated outdoor lounge, as well as its wine bar. Tapas items start at $5.95 and martini specials start at $6 each. Some of the tapas menu dishes include beef sliders, lobster salad sliders, crab cakes and seared quail. Bayside is still a happening spot for lunch (except Saturday), dinner, nightly entertainment, Thursday evening wine tastings and the free-flowing Champagne brunch on Sundays. Memphis Extends Happy Hours
Memphis Café in Costa Mesa has extended happy hour to every day of the week from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. with both drink and appetizer specials. Sol Offers New Dock and Dine Service
Sol Cocina, which is located on the waterfront in Newport Harbor's Balboa Marina, is now featuring "dock and dine" service. With prime docking space for boats right in front of the restaurant, Sol offers catered dockside service, complete with beer, wine and a margarita kit for mixing right on your own boat. Packages start at $75 for six people. Some menu items include grilled carne asada, Kurobuta pork carnitas, lemon-garlic chicken, fresh guacamole, Borracho black beans, crispy tostadas and warm corn tortillas. In addition, chef Deborah Schneider has added new summer items to the regular menu such as a crispy chipotle chicken taco, wood-griled rib-eye charro steak and a carne asada grilled burrito.
