The Australian meat pie shop Pie-Not has opened in Costa Mesa. The shop, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, specializes in veggie and gluten-free pies, in addition to its meat-filled offerings, and also offers a host of dessert items and organic Aussie coffee. Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop is opening its second location in Orange County. The popular fast-casual venue, which specializes in salads, soups and sandwiches that emphasize healthy, organic ingredients, will be located within the white-hot Costa Mesa shopping center South Coast Collection (SOCO). Lark Creek Newport Beach is opening at Fashion Island at the end of July. The restaurant marks the first foray into the Southern California market by the San Francisco-based Lark Creek Restaurant Group, who operates 11 venues in and around the Bay Area. Much like their Northern California counterparts, the restaurant will offer a chef-driven menu of contemporary cuisine featuring local, seasonal ingredients to pair with a host of California wines, artisanal cocktails and craft beers. The Ranch Opens Private Dining and Events Center
The Ranch Restaurant & Saloon has opened their elevated private dining and events center. Located on the sixth floor of the corporate office that the acclaimed Anaheim restaurant calls home, and consisting of over 7,500 square feet, the center offers a quartet of stylish private rooms that open up to cityscape views of the surrounding area and beyond. Summertime "Lunch Detour” Menu at Leatherby’s Café Rouge
Leatherby’s Café Rouge has unveiled its new summertime "Lunch Detour” menu. Executive chef Ross Pangilinan aims to bring the concept of food truck culture inside the Costa Mesa restaurant with a weekly rotating menu of items inspired by fare typically seen in mobile eateries. Example items include Korean barbecue short rib tacos with kimchi slaw and chipotle cheddar; a salmon burger with ginger-soy glaze, crispy shallots, lettuce, and heirloom tomato; and Yukon potato gnocchi. New Menu Items at Zov’s Bistro
Zov’s Bistro has done a massive reworking of its existing menu. Executive chef/owner Zov Kamaradian has changed more than half of the Tustin eatery’s appetizers, entreés and side dishes, which focus on seasonality and flavor composition, keeping in line with the venue’s Mediterranean culinary motif. Selected new items include sun-dried tomato stuffed chicken with roasted vegetable and harissa sauce; Muscovy duck confit with cranberry molasses served with herb butter orzo; and Mediterranean cioppino with shrimp, sea bass, couscous and Swiss chard. Britta’s Café, one of the pioneers of Orange County’s burgeoning farm-to-table movement, closed at the end of June. The venue is shuttering, as Britta Pulliam, the Irvine restaurant’s eponymous chef/owner, is retiring after running the venue for 26 years. Rainforest Café in South Coast Plaza has closed. The eatery, best known for serving up kid-friendly meals in a faux-exotic wildlife environment, has shuttered after 16 years to make room for the arrival of Din Tai Fung, the popular Los Angeles county-based eatery specializing in Shanghai-style soup dumplings.
