Prego Ristorante has reopened. The Italian eatery, located in the heart of Irvine's original business district, had been closed for the previous five months due to a fire that broke out in late June. The restaurant will resume the same hours of operation and offer the same lunch and dinner service as they did before the accident. Red O, the Los Angeles restaurant concept from Chicago celebrity chef Rick Bayless, will be launching a second location in Newport Beach's Fashion Island in 2013. No specific date has been set. Like the L.A. counterpart, the Orange County version will feature Bayless' takes on classic Mexican cuisine, including special seasonally influenced fare. Wild Goose Tavern in Costa Mesa will open on November 9, 2012. The décor is reminiscent of a hunting lodge, with taxidermy on the walls, light fixtures made from repurposed chicken feeders, and a vintage American flag among the design details. The bill of fare offers seasonal salads, burgers and locally made sausages, while the beverage program features craft beers, classic cocktails, single barrel whiskeys and small-batch spirits. Fried Chicken Night at The Crow Bar and Kitchen
The Crow Bar and Kitchen host Fried Chicken Night, a weekly special on Mondays built around one of the Corona Del Mar restaurant's most popular items. For $16, guests can enjoy one-half of a Shelton Farms fried chicken and a constantly changing rotation of side dishes, such as Yukon Gold potato and melted leek mash. Bacon Cheeseburger Salad, Pop Rocks Milkshake & More at Slater's 50/50
Slater's 50/50 in Huntington Beach and Anaheim are rolling out a host of new menu items that push the concept of culinary whimsy to the next level. The popular build-your-own-burger restaurants, whose signature creation features a half-beef, half-bacon hamburger patty, is adding to its reputation for unorthodox fare by spinning unusual takes on several classic selections. Some of the dishes include the chip-smothered Fritos crunch burger; bacon cheeseburger salad; buffalo chicken mac and cheese; and a Pop Rocks milkshake. New Small Plates Menu at Sapphire Laguna
Sapphire Laguna has rolled out a new small plates menu dubbed "spice plates." The new items, which are served at the bar daily beginning at 4 p.m., will feature several smaller-portioned takes on owner/executive chef Azmin Ghahreman's concept of globally inspired comfort foods. Selected items include short rib poutine served with raclette in a béchamel sauce; duck confit fried rice with shiitake mushrooms; southern fried chicken liver paired with a spicy remoulade; and a bacon-wrapped kimchi hotdog with sesame spinach.
