| Dining at The Inn at Morro Bay offers several venues with a view overlooking the estuary: the outdoor deck, the Bay Club bar, and the main dining room, Orchid. The Bay Club offers weekday happy hour specials, live music on many nights, and a very respectable menu for a hotel bar, but it’s at Orchid where chef Anthony Reeves really shines. Committed to serving sustainable fare with a nod to French country and contemporary American cooking, Reeves celebrates local products and lists about a dozen Central Coast food producers on the menu. As such, the menu changes seasonally, but dishes have included a Ocean Rose abalone from Cayucos with creamed leek-lobster stuffed shell, a hearty bouillabaisse with local seafood, and savory sautéed exotic mushrooms from Atascadero with feta cheese wrapped in phyllo. Reeves also offers nightly prix-fixe specials, such as a black bean marinated Hearst Ranch skirt steak from San Simeon with pan-Asian slaw, available with or without wine pairings. There’s a good wines-by-the-glass selection, as well as several single malt scotches. |
