| Established in 1956 by the Rocca family (who founded the original Original Joe’s in San Francisco), this family favorite is a downtown San Jose institution. Order the famous Joe's Special---eggs scrambled with spinach, hamburger and onions---a dish, according to legend, that was created for a musician late one night from what the kitchen had on hand. Lunch specials include lasagna, Swiss steak and meatloaf. At dinner, hearty offerings like prime rib, calf's liver and sweetbreads come with potatoes, spaghetti or ravioli. Classics stand up, too, from eggplant Parmigiana to spaghetti and meatballs. Hamburgers, T-bone steaks, and filet of sole are also house favorites. Service is friendly and quick, and it's open until 1:30 a.m. daily. |
