THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Osteria Il Paiolo Restaurant Review:
This quiet, casual restaurant, with an open façade in the warm weather months, is an example of why Williamsburg has become one of the best dining neighborhoods in New York. Owner Alex Palumbo hails from Piedmont, and the menu of nicely executed, traditional Italian fare leans to the north --- specifically to this region. Dishes like potato and octopus (soft, not rubbery, on the palate) and gnocchi with lobster are good starters. Foie gras-stuffed agnolotti are alone worth the trip, proving Italian cuisine can reach elevated culinary heights. Roasted duck, with its subtle hints of orange, paired with caramelized apples, and the grilled Cornish hen are satisfying mains, especially when complemented by vino from the all-Italian wine list, which includes some affordable selections by the glass.
