| Owners Peter Michaels and Paolo Veronese (Osteria Laguna, Osteria al Doge, Markt) teamed up with managing partner Phillipe Bernard to bring an authentic northern Italian restaurant to Midtown. Around the corner from the Winter Garden Theater, diners can find an extensive menu of regional specialties, including focaccias and rustic thin-crust pizzas made in the exposed brick oven. There's also a nice selection of homemade pastas like pappardelle with slow-roasted free-range rabbit and rosemary, Gaeta olives and shaved pecorino; and tortelli stuffed with roasted lamb, sage, pine nuts and dried prunes. Or opt for a fish or meat dish like the pan-roasted branzino filet with celery root purée, sautéed organic beans, roasted garlic and manila clams; or the 20-ounce grilled porterhouse with garlic fries and sautéed spinach. The huge space has a golden glow and features imported accents: Italian marble, hand-painted antique tiles, still-life oil paintings. The 70-foot marble bar is a big draw with the business crowd that works nearby. |
