Osteria Stellina Restaurant Review

: Osteria Stellina is an oasis of thoughtful contemporary dining. The seasonally changing menu emphasizes organic, local ingredients dished up in rustic, earthy Italian cuisine as nutritious as it is carefully prepared. Chef-owner Christian Caiazzo has built such a strong following for his restaurant (named for his daughter) that he’s single-handedly made this West Marin County town a dining destination. A clean-cut interior, rich in woods and local nature photography, is the setting for a menu that features new dishes daily. These could be a bowl of sunset-bright pumpkin carrot soup striated with crème fraîche; a handful of sweetly biting Brussels sprouts tamed with roasted walnuts; wood-fired pizza painted with melted leeks and dotted with local oysters; or Marin-grown pork shank meltingly tender and paired with polenta and astringent broccoli rabe. All desserts are made from scratch, such as a quince-rose sorbet, chocolate ice cream rife with ground cinnamon, and the flourless bittersweet chocolate cake as dense as fudge. Many of the wines from the small list are local, organic and biodynamically farmed.
