THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Out the Door Restaurant Review

: Tucked away in the basement-level food court of Westfield San Francisco Centre, Charles Phan's Out the Door is a culinary oasis. The casual, full-service restaurant, an offshoot of Phan's popular Slanted Door in the Ferry Building, is quiet, modern and perfect for large groups or a pre-movie date. To start, we suggest the daikon rice cakes with shiitake mushrooms and spicy soy sauce, crispy imperial rolls, or green papaya salad with tofu, pickled carrots, rau ram and peanuts. The menu is divided by genre (seafood, poultry, meat) with tasty choices within (stir-fry, noodles, soup). You can't miss with garlic Shanghai noodles with wild Louisiana gulf shrimp, or the crispy half peppercorn duck with frisée and seasonal fruit. Pair your pick with a wine by the glass or bottle---the thoughtfully chosen list is heavy on white wines that pair well with spice inflected food. Dessert options are few, but you can always end with a steaming mug of tea.
