| This neighborhood fave, previously operated as Out Take Café by a different owner, offers an interesting menu and attractive prices in a casual but smart-looking bistro. Chef/owner Alfredo Rodriguez is Salvadoran, but incorporates eclectic international influences into his menu. Prices are hard to beat, and a salad can be added to the cost of an entrée for just a buck. Starters include borscht, crab cakes with rémoulade, and potato vareniki (Ukrainian dumplings) with caramelized onions and crème fraîche. For entrées, guests choose between pastas (e.g. crab ravioli in a lobster-tomato sauce), beef bourguignon, braised lamb shank or grilled salmon with a sherry reduction. The wine list features a global orientation and plenty of value. For desserts, there are profiteroles, tiramisu and apple strudel. |
