The Oven Restaurant Review: Although restaurateur Mark Tarbell opened this Belmar eatery with little pomp and circumstance, the food offered here creates quite a buzz. The cool and comfortable loft-like room is dominated by Uno and Due, two giant wood-burning fireplaces that deliver lightly charred, thin-crusted pizzas topped with natural and organic ingredients like house-made mozzarella, smoked ricotta, seasonal vegetables, wood-roasted chicken, topnotch gourmet sausages, and hand-ground tapenades and pestos. Weary shoppers who come for the lunch special---a nine-inch pizza, side salad and drink for a reasonable price---love to linger over boutique wines (there are 20 by the glass to choose from) and handmade desserts like oven-baked apple pies and cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate-espresso mousse. |
