Pacifica Cafe Restaurant Review:
Tucked away in the back streets of Kentlands, this pan-Asian eatery takes locals on a Far Eastern jaunt without the megabucks air fare. So what do you get for your money? A smattering of Thai, Singaporean, Japanese (the sushi chef does a commendable job), dim sum on weekends, and some very hearty knock-out Chinese main dishes---some you might not anticipate, including such traditional crowd-pleasers as squid with black bean sauce, parchment shrimp, and shredded pork with dry bean curd. Try the crispy leek pancake and the crispy scallion pancake; the pork bun is the only failure in the lot: too much fat and gristle nestling in a very doughy casing. Of the Chinese main course dishes, we recommend the wide rice noodle dish chow fun, and even find the sushi better than average---the sushi chef wraps the wasabi paste up in a curled plastic leaf usually used to decorate sushi orders.
